Happenings in the insect world

Because I am raising Swallowtail Butterflies and Monarch Butterflies, certain insects don't get to stay in my garden, Praying Mantids don't get to stay in my garden. I find them at night near lights waiting for moths and in the day on butterfly nectar and host plants, and even sitting on my hummingbird feeders.

I kept wondering why I had so many preying mantis’s (?) in my house and front door. Now it makes sense because I have a huge butterfly bush right next to my porch. I’m kind of torn now because I do not like them eating butterflies but my husband says they eat spiders. I am glad that I stumbled upon this post but I probably still cannot bring myself to kill them. 😒

This is a helpful interview about praying mantises and the mostly invasive variety. They eat hummingbirds, bees, and butterflies ALIVE and they are awful --they should be killed when found in your garden. I used to think they were beneficial, too. They are NOT.
