Master Gardeners Serving the Community -
Burlingame Rose Garden Pruning Clinics in January:

Just steps away from busy Burlingame Avenue is a garden of 35 mature rose bushes. A half a mile away is another garden of about 65 rose bushes in Washington Park. All those roses need pruning every winter. So do the roses in the home gardens of many local families. Pruning roses takes time, patience and a little education. How does it all get done?

For the past 6 years, Master Gardener Bobbi Benson has led two Winter Rose Pruning Clinics in Burlingame. Mid-January features the hybrid tea, floribunda and climbing roses of the Washington Park rose garden, and late January features the shrub roses of the Park Road rose garden.

After - Wow!

The clinics are free, offered as 3-hour drop-in workshops where anyone can learn by practicing under the watchful eyes of Bobbi and other knowledgeable Master Gardeners. This year, 13 Master Gardeners and 41 community members came to teach and to learn—and to prune! Both gardens are now poised to put on a glorious show this spring and many homeowners have new skills to use in their own gardens. It's a win-win!
