Program Teams Meetings are scheduled for 2012

Program Teams are umbrella structures under which workgroups now operate. The objectives of this structure are to provide a more efficient and effective means for workgroups to meet and carry out their essential functions, and to enhance inter-workgroup communication and collaboration.

Funds are being made available for Program Teams to meet at strategic initiatives conferences and once a year outside of those conferences.

To Schedule a Meeting, the Program Team leader or Workgroup leader should complete this brief survey and the Program Support Unit will respond to you as soon as possible.

What are Program Teams?
Program Teams are the umbrella structure under which ANR will support workgroups and their functions. Program teams cover broader programmatic areas than individual workgroups. Individual workgroups may continue to operate and may “affiliate” themselves with one or more Program Team.

An example of a Program Team would be: Pomology & Viticulture with affiliated workgroups of Almond, Cling Peach, European Pear, Integrated Grape Production, Prune, Subtropical and Walnut.

What is the rationale behind Program Teams?
– Provide an efficient means for workgroups to meet and carry out their essential functions
– Enhance inter-workgroup communication and collaboration
– Reduce administrative burden on workgroup chairs

What is expected of Program Teams?
– Strengthening communication and networking among affiliated workgroups
– Melding statewide needs assessments from member workgroups into a broader statewide needs assessment
– Planning and implementing integrated and multidisciplinary research and extension programming

What are Program Team Meetings?
Opportunities for the Program Team, and its affiliated workgroups, to come together to accomplish many of the functions of workgroups, in addition to the functions stated about for the Program Team. Workgroup functions include (not limited to):
– Communication and networking
– Contemporary statewide needs assessment about critical issues, gaps in programmatic coverage, etc.
– Planning and implementing collective research and extension programming
– Subject matter in-service training
– Subject matter outreach for clientele audiences

The concept for Program Team meetings is that 25% of the time will be spent together as a Program Team (all workgroups jointly) and 75% of the time dedicated to individual workgroup meetings. This is only the beginning concept, Program Teams and their affiliated workgroups may adapt this to best fit their needs.

What support will be provided to Program Teams?
- Travel expenses for ANR members will be covered for the Program Team meetings. Travel reimbursements will be handled by ANR centrally.
- The ANR Program Support Unit (PSU) will provided logistical support such as facilities arrangements, catering, etc.
